GOLDEN ABC, the pioneering fashion retail company behind such brands as Penshoppe, Oxygen, Memo, Forme, Regatta, and the direct selling subsidiary Red Logo, celebrated its landmark 25th anniversary with a huge homecoming that brought over 500 of its employees from all over the country to the luxe Mactan Island Shangri-la resort.
"We have always been proud of our Cebu roots, and for this historic point in our company history, it was only fitting that we bring everyone home to where it all started," says Bernie Liu, CEO of GOLDEN ABC. "It's a good opportunity to look back at our achievements, to celebrate where we now are, and to get excited about the company's future."
GOLDEN ABC, was founded in Cebu in 1986 as a small retail and manufacturing business. By constantly introducing product innovations and maintaining a high level of professionalism in its operations, the company has grown to become a market leader in the Philippine fashion industry. The company set-up a Manila office in 1987 to support the growing business, and has just broken ground on a 12-storey building in the same compound in Quezon City. Although most of its corporate operations are in Manila, GOLDEN ABC retains a strong presence in Cebu, as the Liu family remain pillars of the Cebuano business community.
"We've been blessed with much success, and it's because we demand a lot from everyone in the company at GOLDEN ABC," says Liu. No less than a 3-day, 2-night stay at the Mactan Island Shangri-la was the reward for GOLDEN ABC's employees, which began and ended with thanksgiving Mass celebrations officiated by His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.
During the anniversary celebrations, the company recognized its standout employees at the GREAT Awards ceremonies (which stands for GOLDEN ABC's Recognition of Employees' Achievements and Triumphs) and the first-ever Founders Awards, hosted by Lyn Ching Pascual, Akihiro Sato, Solenn Heusaff, and Paolo Bediones. The GREAT Awards, held yearly, honors those who exemplify the company's values of integrity, spirit of enterprise, professionalism, and service along with outstanding business performance. This year, 37 GREAT Awardees were chosen from a pool of exemplary performers that were nominated by their own colleagues who have recognized their contribution to the company. Apart from the recognition, the winners of the GREAT Awards will be treated to an all-expense paid vacation to an Asian destination. The Founders Awards, which will be given out every three years, recognizes former GREAT awardees who have continued to uphold the company's values and do excellent work. For the first-ever Founders Awards, 12 honorees were chosen by the management committee and will celebrate together when they all take a week-long company sponsored vacation to Rome, Italy.
"I'd been dreaming of this moment since we began the company 25 years ago," confesses Liu. "And I believe that God has brought us here because we as a company have held true to our values, no matter how tough the times have been. It's what distinguishes us today, and it's what is going to help us make a mark in the international fashion industry in the next 25."
